Best gaming mouse | GamesRadar

What you need to know:

What's wrong with the mouse that came with your computer? Absolutely nothing! Most basic mice are just that, and for good reason; they need to work well for everyone. Gaming mice are generally of higher build qualities and favor a variety of shapes made for specific styles of grips (palm, claw, and fingertip). They also feature a multitude of buttons and customization software. First and foremost, comfort is king. There's no way you're going to last through those late night gaming sessions if your hand is cramping. Extra customizable buttons may seem like a frivolous feature but having a small portion of necessary game skills and abilities on your mouse can be pretty convenient if not invaluable. DPI, CPI, FBI, MIA... Don't get too caught up in some of the technical features because having more of something doesn't necessarily mean it's better. Ultimately, a lot of mouse features boil down to personal preference, so do your research.

Budget: Razer Deathadder (Ergonomic) $59.99

Notable Features
-3500 dpi
-5 Independently Programmable Buttons
-On-the-fly Sensitivity Adjustment

There?s a reason why the Razer Deathadder is a tried and true staple of the Razer gaming
mouse family. Although it's not chock full of dpi like more recent mice boast about, it doesn't mean that it's a slouch. This mouse is a prime example of less is more. It?s packaged with features that matter (high build quality, dpi adjustment, customizable buttons, etc.) but without the filler some gamers may find unnecessary. There are also many technical reasons why enthusiasts love this mouse so much. One of which is the accuracy and consistency of the actual sensor, which results in much more consistent mouse movements. Missing headshots or misclicking objects because your mouse doesn?t track quite right? If so, it's most likely because of inherent characteristics of the particular sensor in your mouse, which Razer gets right with the Deathadder. Also, for the leftys out there, Razer does make a left-handed version of this mouse.

Mid-range: Logitech G500 (Ergonomic) $69.99

Notable Features
-On-board Memory
-Weight Tuning
-Dual-mode Scroll Wheel
-10 Programmable Buttons
-5700 dpi

The G500 seems like your basic gaming mouse on the surface thanks to its on-the-fly
sensitivity adjustments and programmable buttons. But dig deeper and you'll find it to be a totally competent mid-range option. For starters, its on-board memory means you'll be able to store customized user profiles on the mouse itself. That means you can store multiple profiles if there is more than one gamer playing on your rig and that you?ll be able to use your saved settings on other computers without the need to download additional software. It also has adjustable weight which allows you make the mouse lighter for faster/easier movement, or heavier for more precise movement. If you're looking for a great gaming mouse full of customization features, look no further.?

Mid-Range: Razer Naga Hex (Ergonomic) $79.99

Notable Features
-6 MOBA/Action-RPG optimized mechanical thumb buttons
-Razer Synapse 2.0

Razer has expanded their Naga lineup with its newest addition, the Hex, which is geared towards MOBA (Multiplayer Online Battle Arena) players. This genre has been popularized by games such as LoL (League of Legends) and DotA 2 (Defense of the Ancients), which are stand-alone iterations of a Warcraft III Custom Game map. A split second in either game can mean the difference between something as small as a deny or last hit or as large as a pentakill. Having a conveniently located array of buttons on the side of your mouse definitely helps make every second count. Regardless if you're playing MOBAs or not, the extra buttons can be useful for almost any game. At first glance, you'd think the Naga mice would be quite large considering how many buttons is has, but it's quite the opposite. It's surprisingly small and actually very comfortable for an ergonomic mouse. Because the buttons are much larger and sit further apart from each other, it's much easier to acclimate to without the worry of accidental key presses. Gaming aside, the side buttons can also be programmed with other functions to help improve productivity for everyday use. Although the Naga Hex is labeled as an MOBA mouse, it's versatile enough to recommend for anything as long as you're in the market for a ton of programmable buttons.

Premium: Steelseries Sensei (Ambidextrous) $99.99

Notable Features
-On-board Memory and Processor
-Up to 11,400 cpi
-On-mouse LCD Menu
-Customizable Lighting
-Steelseries Engine

The Steelseries Sensei shares a shape that is similar to the old MS Intellimouse, which was quite popular during its time. The Steelseries Engine allows you to customize anything and everything on this mouse including buttons, lighting, and even the graphics associated with your user profile on the underbelly of the mouse. The software is intuitive and extremely easy to use. The key feature to the Sensei is the 32-bit ARM processor. Whether you take it to a friend's house, LAN party, or even to work, all of your settings are saved on the mouse itself without the need for drivers or additional software. To top it off, it works well for a variety of grip styles because of its ambidextrous shape. The Sensei is minimalistic where it needs to be, but feature packed where it counts--a no-brainer if you've got the coin.

There are just too many good choices for mice out there to list, but we hope that this was enough to at least help get you started. Are there any other mice that you think should be on the list? Let us know in the comments below.?
